After working the Auckland night market circuit for some time, Chef Jorge and Andrea have gone brick-and-mortar with a cantina adorned with colourful papel picado (traditional Mexican decorative flags), vibrant tablecloths and intricate ornaments.
After making a name for themselves on Auckland’s night market circuit, Chef Jorge and Andrea have opened the doors to Sagrado—a colourful Mexican cantina inspired by Jorge’s family and the traditions passed down through generations. With Mama Lety leading the kitchen, the menu brings the flavours of her family table to Aotearoa, from crispy tostadas and enchiladas to birria, suadero, asada and pork belly carnitas.
A Sagrado favourite is their rich, small-batch mole, inspired by the classic mole poblano and layered with dried chillies, spices and dark chocolate. Alongside the much-loved market dishes, expect weekly specials, seasonal creations and more family recipes to come. Pair it all with house-made horchata or a refreshing agua fresca for a true taste of Mexico City in Tāmaki Makaurau.
