You can't beat a classic, but you can make it bespoke

The nineties are back in style and the good news is you can buy a piece from the era rather than an imitation of the era in the newest addition to St Kevin’s Arcade. Stalgic Society already has a loyal following of customers who love their curated collections of reworked eighties and nineties clothing and accessories.

Now they have opened their doors to a new full time home at St Kev’s, including a vintage denim bar with free in-store customisation. “These days there is so much mass-produced fashion it feels great to rock items that are one of a kind,” says Sarah Stanford.

First choose from a fully stocked range of styles from brands like Calvin Klein, Gas, Wrangler, Tommy Hilfiger, GUESS and more. Then become your own designer and choose how Sarah will spice up your new love-worn threads with patches, crops, cuts, frays and other distressing techniques. On occasion Stalgic will host guest artists to further personalise your jeans.

“Denim is made to be recycled,” she says. “The fabric is tough, goes with anything and is never out of style, making it perfect to make your own.” Various counter-cultures have tailored their denim over the years, from punks to hip-hop crews, hippies to bikers.

Not to mention that vintage jeans are the ultimate in sustainable fashion, as denim production can have a devastating effect on the environment. Stalgic is also where you will find vintage Americana tees including Harley Davidson, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Marlboro and more. “When I source tees I always check for authenticity,” says Sarah.

Stalgic is the second retailer to move into St Kevin's after a short stint as a pop-up there earlier in the year. Both discovered that a pop-up to be a low risk and affordable testing ground before committing to bricks and mortar retail.
